What Happens When You Call
We Ask About Your Lock
Is it a deadbolt? Knob lock? Smart lock? Knowing the lock type helps us give an accurate price and bring the right tools. If you don't know, that's fine — we'll figure it out on arrival.
We Quote a Flat Price
Before we dispatch, you'll know exactly what it costs. If the price works for you, we send the closest available locksmith. If not, no pressure. We don't charge for phone quotes.
We Pick the Lock
The locksmith arrives in a branded vehicle, shows ID and gets to work. Most residential locks are picked in under 10 minutes. Your lock works the same afterwards — no replacement needed.
We Ask for ID
For your security, we verify you live at the address. A driver's license, utility bill or lease agreement works. This protects you — a locksmith who doesn't ask for ID is a red flag.
Locks We Open in Nashville Homes
Kwikset
The most common residential lock in Nashville. Standard pin tumbler design. Picked quickly with no damage. We also rekey Kwikset SmartKey locks.
Schlage
Higher security than Kwikset. Tighter tolerances. Still pickable by a trained locksmith in under 10 minutes. Very common in newer Nashville construction.
Smart Locks
Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August Smart Lock, Kwikset Halo. Dead battery? Failed app connection? Forgotten code? Most have a key override we can pick.
High-Security (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock)
Restricted keyway locks found in upscale homes and condos. They take longer to pick but we carry the specialized tools. These are the locks that make scam locksmiths reach for a drill.
After We Get You In — What to Do Next
If you lost your keys: Get your locks rekeyed. Rekeying costs $50-$100 per lock and makes every old key useless. Cheaper and faster than replacing locks. Learn about our rekey service →
If your lock is old or worn: Consider upgrading to a deadbolt or smart lock. A worn lock is easier to pick — for both locksmiths and burglars. We install new locks same-day.
If this keeps happening: Hide a spare key with a trusted neighbor (not under the mat). Install a smart lock with a keypad. Or get a lockbox — the same kind real estate agents use.
What We See in Nashville Neighborhoods
Nashville's housing stock spans 100 years, and the locks reflect that. Different neighborhoods present different lockout challenges. Knowing what to expect in your area helps us bring the right tools and give you an accurate quote on the first call.
East Nashville (Lockeland Springs, Five Points, Inglewood). Mix of restored Victorians and new builds. Older homes often have original mortise locks from the 1920s — they're beautiful but require specialized picking tools that most locksmiths don't carry. New construction in East Nashville trends toward smart locks (Schlage Encode and Yale Assure are the most common). We handle both.
Germantown and The Nations. Heavy new construction with modern deadbolts and smart locks. Many of these homes have keypad-only entry — no physical key at all. Lockouts here usually involve dead batteries or forgotten codes. We carry replacement batteries for every major smart lock brand and can reset codes on-site.
Green Hills and Belle Meade. Upscale neighborhoods with high-security locks — Medeco, Mul-T-Lock and Abloy. These locks are designed to resist picking, bumping and drilling. They take longer to open (15 to 30 minutes) but they're still pickable with the right training and tools. Scam locksmiths drill these on sight because they don't know how to pick them. We don't drill.
Hermitage, Donelson and Antioch. Mostly 1980s and 1990s construction with standard Kwikset and Schlage deadbolts. These are the fastest lockouts we do — 5 to 10 minutes in most cases. If your lock is original to the house, it's 30 to 40 years old and worn enough that picking is trivial. Consider upgrading after we get you in.
Downtown condos and high-rises. Buildings like The Gulch towers, Velocity and Icon use restricted keyway systems managed by the building. We can pick the lock to get you in, but replacement keys need to come from building management. Call the front desk first — they may have a master. If they don't answer (nights and weekends), call us.
